My boss told me she was "deeply concerned" about the martial arts classes I continued to participate in after a spectacular fall-apart at work. I pointed out that the martial arts training helps more than the drugs for keeping me stabilized, and has probably prevented more violent outbursts than all my work in therapy. For an hour or two, I don't have to monitor emotions at all - just let them drop away and focus on the physical work I'm asking of my body. It is incredibly freeing!
